I contacted him, we'll see if he gets back to me. Who will cover city hall?
UPDATE:
Lee McGuire has spoken:
"Hey, Mike! It's true, I have left KHOU! I moved to Boston earlier this week, which is my hometown. It was a tough decision to leave channel 11 but ultimately I'm a Yankee at heart!!"

I will cover city hall one day in the near future. Just wait for five to seven years and it will be me. Lee Mcguire will be missed.
ReplyDeleteHe and his partner have moved to Boston where his partner will be working now. No word on Lee's next move up there but for now I believe he is off the air. We will all miss him!
ReplyDeleteTo answer your other question, I believe you'll see Alex Sanz covering both City and County governments for a while as he's already been covering county.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info. And I have also just updated the post with Lee's statement.
ReplyDeleteI am so excited to be blog-worthy. Mike, I think this is the first time I have ever been blogged about -- so I am re-thinking my decision to move back east. Also, the forecast high for Boston tomorrow is 23.
ReplyDeleteLee, we will always take you back!
ReplyDeleteLee Mac,
ReplyDeleteI love Boston, sorry you're leaving us but you couldn't be going any place better. Boston will be lucky to have you back my friend and it was a pleasure getting to work with you! I'll look you up next time I'm up there.

Why would KHOU allow a work horse like McGuire to leave? Is it revenue. It's hard to find a guy who can do a broadcast story (I mean can write under pressure)and get it right 99% of the time. I'm looking more and more at channel 2's news lately, not because of the McGuire departure, it's the crisp writing. (Good producers who care about not just the pictures say, but what is said while running them. Good Luck McGuire..
ReplyDeleteI don't think he left out of malice or dissatisfaction with KHOU. In fact, he's probably happy he left on good terms with KHOU. Sometimes life takes you in different directions you hadn't planned on and, personally, it seems like KHOU helped Lee go where he needs to be now instead of being a bad employer.
ReplyDeleteOf course each situation is different, your mileage may vary, and the details are in the fine print. But in this case there's probably no case for a witch hunt. :-)
