Rebecca Miller out at NBC 5 KXAS in Dallas/Fort Worth

UPDATE 1/2009
Rebecca Miller permanent at 33 KDAF Dallas

UPDATE!
The Weather Channel's Jennifer Lopez replaces Rebecca Miller at NBC 5 KXAS Dallas-Fort Worth

Fans of Rebecca Miller won't see her on NBC 5 KXAS in Dallas/Fort Worth anymore reports the Fort Worth Star Telegram:
If you look for meteorologist Rebecca Miller on KXAS/Channel 5 this morning, you won't find her. Brian Hocker, vice president of programming for NBC5, confirmed Wednesday that Miller's contract wasn't renewed and that Wednesday was her last day at the station. Hocker said that no replacement has been named and that meteorologists Steve MacLaughlin and James Aydelott will take turns filling in on Miller's morning slot. Miller had been with KXAS since the summer of 1991.

  1. CRAZY!!!

Rebecca has been my very favorite local personality.

Bad, bad move. If it weren't for the legacy of Harold Taft, to Finfrock, and I thought Miller, there would be no good Texas weather folks.

So wrong. There's NO reason to watch channel 5 in the morning now -- and I won't.

I really hope some smarter savier local station snatches her up.

What the heck were they thinking?

  2. Rebecca was the last hire made by the late, great Harold Taft.

I guess NBC5 wants someone who is smaller and more petite than someone like Rebecca. I think Rebecca is a great met. She is also the only one in the DFW area who is a licensed, properly trained met.

NBC5 can go suck an egg. I hope Finrock is not next.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Very BAD move! She is down to earth & GREAT at her job. I no longer will tune into NBC5, sorry David. I too, hope another local station will pick her up! Good luck Rebecca!!

  4. I pray, if Brian Hocker is the cause of Rebecca Miller not getting her contract renewed he will be next. How in the world this could happen to such a wonderful person is beyond me. On the other hand some people don't know good when they see or hear it.
It's your loss, her gain. She will soar higher now that she has been given a chance. Many, many people love you and hoping lifes best to you, someone so deserving.

  5. Was Becky really the only (besides David, I assume) fully qualified Meteorologist in DFW media ??????
It woudl be a HUGE WIN if another local TV station captured her!!! I would LOVE that!
I'll watch Channel 4 now - Tim is silly but funny, and Meagan is smart and classy.

  6. If Howard Taft were still here, he would be in somebody face until they brought Rebecca back, and with a pay raise.
I really thought that David Frinfrock was in charge of the weather dept....I guess not.

    ReplyDelete
  7. First Scott Chesner was let go a couple of years ago. And now Rebecca Miller?! The only good met left is Mr. Finfrock himself.

Whenever I see Steve M or James A, I change the channel. I cannot stand watching either of them. They just don't have a personality that I like.

The NOAA weather voice has more personality than James.

Time to start watching another station.

  8. Hey, I just read in the paper that Susan Tully is responsible-said Rebecca wasn't good! I sent a letter asking why and guess who responded with no answer? Susan Tully! She has told her staff to send ALL questions about Rebecca to her and no one else!

Can one station be so stupid? Rebecca Miller is the best weather person they have. I will not be watching Channel 5 in the mornings anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Scott Chesner gone a few years ago replaced by someone who didn't (and still doesn't) understand Texas weather. Now Rebecca Miller...Rebecca and Tammy were the reasons why our TV was on NBC every morning. No longer.

  11. Stick a fork in me cause I AM DONE with Channel 5. Rebecca Miller brought sunshine each morning no matter how bad the weather report was. I am a life long Channel 5 watcher, growing up in the metroplex watching Harold Taft. I remember when David Finfrock first started. The station back then took pride in hiring competent meterologists to report the weather. Those days are gone.

    ReplyDelete
  12. What a STUPID move! Rebecca added more personality than any of the other morning news anchors on that station. That's the only reason I watched. It's channels 5's loss. I will not be watching anymore and I know a lot of my friends won't either.
Watch out David- you might be next
in line to get the axe.

    ReplyDelete
  13. We will also be done with channel 5 as well as many of our friends. Rebecca was the sunshine in the morning and always happy. We saw her in Target one day and she was just as nice in person as on the TV. I will be watching channel 8 now. You should think about bringing her back!

    ReplyDelete
  14. A catty move by the pin head news director. KXAS does not have real HD,they are faking it with twinkling curtains and standard aspect ratio with sidebars!! I will now leave Channel 5 and move to become a channel 8 viewer.

Sure hope Rebecca turns up somewhere else....I really miss her pretty face.

    ReplyDelete
  15. What an insane move by Ms. Tully. You still think sex sells? That's apparent when gridlock buster is on there; tight suits, busting out at the top, all giddy. It was so refreshing to see Rebecca who is professional and to know how involved in the community she is. What a loss! Time to move to another network and hopefully Rebecca will move too.

    ReplyDelete
  16. i am so mad about this, she was the reason i tuned into channel 5 at 5am, i'm done.

    ReplyDelete
  17. We all hope Rebecca lands on her feet along with a good raise. As most people have already stated, I will not be watching Channel 5 in the mornings anymore. Channel 8 or 11 here I come.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Diana in Carrollton3/09/2008 05:34:00 PM

Very ignorant move, especially the way it was handled. Channel 5 has been the choice in our home since Harold Taft. I do not think that we will tune in any longer. I certainly hope another local channel hires Becky.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Well, whatever the conflict was I hope Channel 5 is prepared to take a substancial ratings hit. Channel 11 has been really tuning their mornings up, and just like everyone else...I won't be watching KXAS anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Well it's about time. I couldn't stand morning in and morning out listening to Rebecca Miller giving another lame weather broadcast.....just kidding. She was very professional and interesting. I think it stinks. Tammy is sweet as well.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Nice move Tully your Ego Having been fed is our (the viewers) lose I will now watch another morning show no reason to tune in anymore. I guess having the number 1 rated morning show in the metroplex morning wasn't enough. Rebecca Good luck and god bless I hope you are snached up by another local station. Would serve tthem right

    ReplyDelete
  22. I just can't believe some pinhead of an exec let her go. I will no longer watch channel 5 news.

    ReplyDelete
  23. That's a shame! I've been watching "BecBec" for 17 years. Well, if she goes, I go. I'll change the dial which will mean that Matt, and Meredith, and Ann, and Al can kiss me goodbye too.
I'll miss David F. Hope he didn't have a play in this. Good luck Becky! You'll do well wherever you end up, and some station will be getting a damn fine and attractive meterologist!

  24. I wish WFAA would pick up Rebecca and dump that arrogant, cocky, Pete Delkus!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Bring Rebecca back, and fire the idiot that let her go! She was the only reason that I watched the morning news.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Gotta agree with these folks, we are going to miss "Becca". Was a bad move from my point of view. You do not get rid of a 17 year employee for no stated reason. As for me and my family, we will be watching the weather channel.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I would assume there was a well-intentioned focus group that offered up just the "findings" station exec's needed to make their emperor moves. I really hope it doesn't turn out to be a set-up for a younger, tiny talking head spouting weather terms they don't understand. Shame on the execs. I moved here in 2000 and was immediately impressed with her ability, poise and down-to-earth delivery.

    ReplyDelete
  28. This personnel move by the management of NBC5 only proves they are disconnected with their viewers.

It is no accident that the management waited until after the end of the Jan 31 - Feb 27 Sweeps to make this fact known. Are there any Nielsen families out there listening to all our anger? The next opportunity to make NBC5 listen to their viewers is during the spring sweeps - April 24 - May 21.

Another way to make NBC5 listen to us is to let local advertisers know that we will stop watching - thus diluting their advertising exposure! We don't live in a democracy for nothing!

    ReplyDelete
  29. If they just had to let someone go I wished it would have been Tammy. I wouldn't miss her near as much as Becky. Miller is professional, classy and knows her job well. I truly hope another local station snatches her up. NBC5 execs just made a tremendously stupid move. I will not be watching them in the morning anymore. We'll miss you Becky!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Our families all watched channel 5 with Rebecca in the morning for the weather. Letting her go was a colossal mistake on the part of NBC. We will be seeking out another station for the weather now that their is no reason to stay. Who ever is responsible for letting Rebecca go should be let go themselves.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I am very sorry to see her go, but James A. and Steve M. do an excellent job, and they are real meteorologist.

Whomever says they have no personality is in need of a reality check, they are both very charismatic.

I see why many of us are sad and mad she is not in the mornings anymore, but that is no reason to judge those left behind. I will continue tuning in to see who takes her place. After all, it's all part of life in corporate America, it happens everywhere not only on television.

I wish you the best Becky. But I will continue watching NBC5 for the best weather coverage in North Texas.

  33. Channel 5 commited the same dumb mistake when they fired Harold Taft several years ago. The public rage was so great they had to restore his job. I hope Channel 5 management has to do the same thing for Becky. Then I would be able to watch Channel 5 again.

    What a loss!!!!

  34. Hey Susan Tully!!!
Listen to this, it's my remote switching off channel 5. What were you thinking? Oh sorry, you didn't.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Not just a bad move, a stupid move! When management makes decisions that reflect the fact that they aren't in touch with the people that they are supposed to serve, it demonstrates that they aren't competent in their job. If it's thought that someone younger and prettier (?) can draw more audience for weather, think again. That's NOT why people have been loyal Rebecca watchers all these years. We got real, sensible weather reporting without the hype. Her strong community ties alone should have given them pause. What a bunch of dummies! Good luck to Rebecca...wherever or whatever you do... you made a huge number of fans in D/FW.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I didn't start watching Channel 5 until Channel 8 dumped Scott Sams. It took me a while to finally settle on Channel 5. Now I love the entire Channel 5 morning crew. Rebecca Miller and her weather forecasing on the 5s was primarily the reason I decided on this show. There is no better traffic reporter than Tammy. Debra Ferguson's smiley face and Brendan Higgins' dry sense of humor are just what I need in the mornings to get me going. I'm sure another station in the area will pick Rebecca up. Too much talent to just let her go.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'd been watching Rebecca Miller since I moved here in 97. Now it's letting the kids watch their Disney or Nick TV and the occasional Weather Channel in the mornings. Channel 5 sucks.

    ReplyDelete
  38. My mornings were good when I saw her smiling face. I always called her my T.V wife. She could pass as a twin for my wife. I am sad! She will be missed. I just hope a local station picks her up. Becky if your out there... we are on your side.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I agree with the comments that have gone before. Becky was smart and personable. I've watched her since she began on Channel 5. I will now switch to another channel. Looks like the middle-aged news anchors who we've watched for years better watch their backs as well. Apparently Channel 5 thinks it's a crime to get older while doing a great job.

    ReplyDelete
  40. What a shame, Rebecca is like the rainbow at the end of the dreary storm.
Such a loss, a class act, knowledgeable in her craft. Rest in peace Harold. Channel 4/8/11 maybe but certainly not 5.

  42. Well.. sorry if Rebecca Miller's contract was not renewed... but my family is a little excited... she had a tendency to love telling you when the weather was going to be bad... especially if it was suppose to be nice one day and it changed... it was almost like.. well, if you have your picnic basket ready.. you can put it away now... always loving to bust a bubble!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I am truly sorry to learn that Rebecca is no longer there. Also, it's disgraceful that a person who has spent 17 years with an employer just disappears without a proper send off - both to her fans and for her. Why is there no employee loyalty to employers, because of situations like this!!! I would have thought that NBC would have taken the high road, regardless of the circumstances, and shown some appreciation to Rebecca's years of service to the station and the community, and to its listeners. Did Susan Tully think we wouldn't notice? I've spent my mornings for the last 17 years with Rebecca.

I think it's shameful and a disgrace. I'm sure she will be replaced with a younger man....

    ReplyDelete
  44. Terrible move!! I was SO hoping that Rebecca was just on a long vacation. What were they thinking? She's the ONLY reason we watched Channel 5 in the morning. She deserves much better - and I hope she is on to bigger and better things where she is appreciated. Apparently "someone" at the station is totally out of touch with the viewers.

    ReplyDelete
  45. NBC5 made a dumb moving by jettisoning Rebecca Miller. I will watch my morning news elsewhere from now on. I'd watched 5 ever since moving here in 2001. But, never again.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Surely this is some cruel joke. The chemistry between Becky, Brendan, Deborah and even Tammy cannot be replicated. It's a shame - I thought I'd always be loyal to Channel 5. I can't tell you how I'm going to miss Brendan and Deborah in the mornings, but I have to take a stand and do what's right. It's going to be Fox & Friends in the morning, and I'll rely on my iPhone for weather. Goodbye to my friends at NBC 5. Susan Tully, you have no idea what a HUGE mistake you've made!!! What goes around comes around...

    ReplyDelete
  47. BIG MISTAKE!!!! I loved Rebecca!!! Who will be next Tammy? Good luck Rebecca, you deserve better. I'll be changing stations tomorrow morning!!

  48. The ONLY reason we watched the NBC5 channel was to get a credible weather forecast from Rebecca Miller. We enjoyed her personality and everything about her she presented herself. She will take her professionalism and friendly personality to another market and succeed well. Now that Rebecca is gone we have no interest in NBC5 whatsoever.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I have to say I agree with what has already been written. Rebecca Miller was why I watched ch.5 news in the mornings before I left for work. I now will watch Fox4 or maybe ch.11. What I won't watch is NBC. Whoever decided to axe her was not in touch with how the viewers felt. hmmm...must be an ego thing of "I'll show you who's boss"... How sad.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Bad decision. I think Becky had many more viewers that relied on her forecasts than you realize.

You management wizards might want to consider unringing that bell, but that would mean having to admit you screwed it up.

    Whats the matter, no guts?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Bring back Rebecca Miller and fire Ms. Tully, whoever she is!! She must be the most ignorant person in Dallas County!!! We will NOT watch NBC 5 any longer!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Ms. Miller has already been sorely missed. I have already moved to channel 11. NBC5 flubbed up a lot in the past few months and this was the last straw. Good Luck to You Ms. Miller.

    ReplyDelete
  53. What were they thinking!!! My husband and I have quit watching channel 5 since they let Rebecca go. We do not like the new dudes.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I just wonder- "What Would Harold Say?". I don't think he would be pleased. I am moving to Channel 8 or 11.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I moved up here from Houston, where we enjoyed Dr. Neil Frank do the weather. He was the former head of the National Hurricane Center, a PhD metorologist and great weather broadcaster. He didn't go into panics over stuff and had personality to boot. So when we moved up here, we decided Channel 5 had the only weather staff that even remotely approached Dr. Frank. Guess we'll have to move back to Houston or get a satellite dish, now that Rebecca Miller is gone!

    ReplyDelete
  56. We always looked forward to watching Rebecca Miller each morning give the weather forcast. We liked her demeanor and personality. We will be miss her. We have switched our perferred news station to Channel 8.

    ReplyDelete
  57. We looked forward to seeing Rebecca Miller every morning. She is a class act and she new her job, and what a lovely flowing voice. Now that she's gone, we will no longer be tuning into nbc5 and will be watching ch 4.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Was out of town. Been looking for Rebecca. Now I know. Shame on you, channel 5. Becky was the only reason I turned on the TV in the morning to get the weather. I can get a weather report by looking out the window and listening to the radio on the way to work! You made a big mistake getting rid of Rebecca. I hope that others follow their hearts also and look elsewhere for their news and weather. Cheryl

    ReplyDelete
  59. I was out of town for a couple of weeks and kept saying I would go look at the NBC5i.com website to find out what happened to Rebecca and guess what...you won't find her name or anything that happened to her there. She was the reason I watched channel 5 in the morning. No more...goodbye NBC5.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I am disappointed in Channel 5. I have always watched their news and weather forecasts since living in Fort Worth years ago. I like Rebecca and hope another local station will hire her.

    Since I'm a senior adult, non-Hispanic, I'm sure my opinion doesn't count.

Channel 5 gives poor service on their HD channel where I attempt to watch some of my favorite programs. The most frustrating thing is losing the program entirely, or losing the sound during an intense scene. The picture is there, but I don't read lips.

  62. I thought channel 5 had great integrity. My bad! Channel 5 made a fatal error when they fired Becky. She's intelligent, well-spoken, pretty and had an incredible sense of humor. It was refreshing to wake up in the morning and she her bright and cheeerful face. I watched NBC5 because of the reporting of the weather. It was always on target! This new girl, Jennifer Lopez, doesn't have the charisma Becky has, nor the self- confidence. And I was appalled to find out that J.L. was an 8 year veteran. She needs some training in the self- esteem department. She screws up every other word, and I hang on hoping she won't make any more mistakes. Her speech is not fluid. I will not watch the morning weather anymore. But will continue to watch Tammy, Deborah, and Brendan- love you all. S Crain- Frisco

  65. The following was posted on the NBC5I.com site under the announcement of Jennifer (WHO?) Lopez:
You are obviously not allowing all comments to remain on your site because I know I'm not the only ex-channel 5 viewer over the change of your morning weather crew. I heard Rebecca was "let go"? Harold Taft has turned over in his grave! Jennifer Lopez's church-mouse, librarian-like mannerisms are very irritating to the extent I had to switch. Evan Andrews is much easier to watch but it saddens me after at least 18 years that my morning gal is...poof....gone.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Changing channels for sure! We really enjoyed Rebecca. The new woman is a dud!

    ReplyDelete
  67. In 15 years I've never channel hopped during the morning news. With Rebecca gone I now find myself looking for another personality I feel comfortable with and trust so much. What a shame. I feel so let down by Channel 5. Good luck Becky. You'll do great.

  70. OMG... I had a feeling something was wrong when I didn't see her much anymore but I thought it was because of my crazy work schedule and then being out of country for a month.

Rebecca was always my favorite and I too will now be watching Fox 4 -- big mistake NBC... Rebecca had that sincere smile and manner about her with charisma to boot.

Rebecca, if you're following all this, I hope you're doing well and have found another, more rewarding, station to work for! Thanks for all the good years! We all love you, don't forget that.

  73. I moved here about 3 years ago and one thing that bugs me about the weatherpeople here is that they seem to get off on severe weather. If there is a tornado down the street, they seem to wet their pants out of excitement of end of the world weather reporting. Chill out guys !!!!!!!!! CBS Greg Fields is a Clown. Horrible. Delkus is a boring Nimrod. NBC, How Lo Can You Go With J Lo. Rebecca Miller was and is the BEST.

  74. Cannot stand Channel 5. Mike Snyder and jane McGarry are the WORST in DFW news. Always pointless and dry humor at the end of every newscast. Will someone step in and fire them? Wow, I'm surprised on the amount of negative comments here. Switching stations just because they fired a great person? Ok, maybe I can see some point in that, but it also shows some arrogance too.

I've been watching NBC 5 for probably 15 years now, I've always enjoyed NBC, the earliest cast being David, Scott, Rebecca, and Victoria that I can remember.

Yes, I'm sad to see Becky go just like anyone else is, but by no means do I not enjoy NBC 5 still. I do, and I love David's forecasts as well.

Also, Steve MacLaughlin is actually a nice guy. I met him once for a small interview and he did know what he was talking about and explained how the Stormtrack5 (at the time) radar worked. Even gave me a small tour of the station as well. Can't say I like James much, but he wasn't bad.

Anyway, Becky seems to be doing quite well for The 33 News as Chief Meteorologist there, so I can still see her there if I wish. Otherwise, I'm still tuning for NBC5 for the cast I've known for almost my entire life.
