KPRC Channel 2 is dumping Radar the Weather Dog

Hey boy...can you say you were dumped? Good boy.

Looks like KPRC Channel 2 is seeing Radar the Weather Dog out the door, but don't worry, he won't end up dumped on HWY 59 says Mike McDaniel of the Houston Chronicle:

Radar the Weather Dog has sniffed out a new job. The Channel 2 mainstay will become the face of the John C. Freeman Weather Museum.

The move means fewer cameos for Radar on KPRC / Channel 2, where he will continue to serve as unofficial ambassador.

"He will no longer appear daily in our newscasts, but he'll continue to represent the station and the weather museum at community events," news director Skip Valet said Wednesday. "Of course, when Radar appears, our cameras will be there with him."

"I didn't agree with Radar being on the newscast from the beginning," said Valet, "but that wasn't my call."

Radar had no comment.

There were people who loved the dog and then there were those who hated him. My dentist told me a few years ago that he and his wife loyally flipped over to Channel 2 at 5pm just to see Radar.

Then there are the stories. I'm sure if you work in the media, you've heard some. Like the uncontrollable barking during newscasts! I heard Radar had to be on the 10pm and the morning at one point, so he was at the station overnight. Production assistants had to tend to him and sometimes I heard he just ran around the newsroom.

Then there was the jealousy. One KPRC staffer told me at the height of the Radar's popularity, the anchors were starting to get jealous that the dog was getting more appearance requests than they were!

I'm sure this new arrangement is best for all parties involved.

seriously, skip valet can stick his head in radar's rear. that guy knows about as much as i do about running a tv station. radar was the only thing that place had going for it...now don't get me wrong, that wendy corona is easy on the eyes...but radar was what we tuned in to see. guess we have to go back to watching the crypt keeper on 13. skip, what are you going to do next? send your anchor crew down to the rodeo for 20 minutes of daily cowboy crap? oh, wait, you already did that. here's a thought, dump that hick chick in the morning, let radar appear on air from 5-7 am with a handler who "interprets" radar's forecast, hire a corona clone who likes getting to work at 3 am, help us figure out how to pronounce owen's last name, and then GO AWAY!

I'm going to go into a coma. The news media is soooo uptight to "make" a news story that just is not there! How many news stories of puddles, and light wind CAN one television station report?

You've been reporting the "everything seems to be doing OK" story 40 different ways for the past 6 hours and there is no end in sight!!

Relief puleeeeeeeze!!!!
