mikemcguff podcast update on qtags

A couple of weeks ago you heard my podcast on qtags, a Houston-based company that offers a reminder/coupon service through text messaging. Well, here is an update from the On Message blog:

Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits unveiled a text-based couponing program using qtags today.

Customers throughout the Houston area who text the word "popeyes" to 78247 receive a coupon for free fries and a drink directly to their mobile phone.

The program is being marketed via reader boards and door clings at all 94 Houston-area Popeyes restaurants.

In the first two hours of the program, nearly 100 people texted to receive their coupon. Pretty cool, huh?

Founder Allison Gower wrote into the mikemcguff blog to say the promotion runs through 9/21. It is a novel concept.
