"To me, it's all about being happy and comfortable where you live," Speelman told mikemcguff.com.  "El Pasoans have been very warm and welcoming over the years and KVIA management has always given me the tools I need to tell the daily weather story."

Starting with ABC-7 in 2000, this achievement makes him the longest-serving chief meteorologist in KVIA history.

Outside of television weather, Speelman is a part-time farmer in Anthony, NM, where he grows pecans, alfalfa, and giant Bermuda grass.

Before The Sun City, Speelman was the morning and noon meteorologist for KAMR 4 Amarillo from 1996 to 1999.

His introduction to broadcasting was working for the National Weather Network (now called Weather Vision), forecasting and voicing radio weather reports for stations nationwide. He also covered weather for both the Florida and Louisiana State Radio Networks.

Around this time, he started transitioning into TV by delivering weather reports to stations around the United States. He also anchored weekends for WAPT 16 Jackson, Mississippi. Houston readers will know one of his co-workers back then—that's right, ABC13 KTRK chief meteorologist David Tillman

The Oak Park, Illinois-raised meteorologist has a bachelor's degree from Anderson University and a Master of Science from Murray State University.
