Tom Jarriel, best known for his fantastic reporting at ABC News, has died at age 89.
Many Houstonians might not realize that Jarriel started his television reporting with KPRC 2 Houston in 1958. In the 1964 video below, you can see Jarriel reporting for a Larry Rasco-anchored newscast.
ABC News reports that Jarriel joined the network in 1965 "and quickly gained national attention for his coverage of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr."
The award-winning journalist later became Chief White House Correspondent, weekend anchor, and "20/20" correspondent. He said the defining story of his career was covering the suffering of children in Romanian orphanages.
He retired in 2002.
