KPRC 2 launches "Breaking Free" initiative

KPRC

February 10, 2023 – Houston, TX – KPRC 2 is partnering with law enforcement, nonprofits and legal advocates across the greater Houston area for “Breaking Free”, a weeklong initiative focusing on escaping and ending domestic and partner violence, the week of February 12 on KPRC 2 News and streaming on KPRC 2+.

“Breaking Free” will focus on stopping partner violence, with the goal of providing support, resources, and solutions that can save lives. It’s a dangerous problem that’s often hidden from public view until it becomes deadly. Domestic violence caused by an intimate partner can leave victims feeling vulnerable and trapped. KPRC 2 is here to help.

The entire KPRC 2 news team and the Houston Life team will contribute on a wealth of subjects, including teen dating violence, relationship red flags, men who are abused, cultural differences, dating app violence, sextortion, abuse in a same-sex relationship, and many others.

The weeklong initiative kicks off Sunday, February 12 on Houston Newsmakers with Khambrel Marshall, where he’ll welcome members of the Texas Advocacy Project, an organization that helps survivors with legal services and other resources. Houston Newsmakers airs Sunday at 10 a.m. on KPRC 2 and streaming on KPRC 2+.

“We feel an obligation to our community to shed light on this often overlooked and dangerous problem,” says KPRC 2 Vice President & General Manager, Phil Lane. “This is another step in our ongoing effort to bring help and solutions to Houston.”
