TX TV stations featured on "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver"

Sponsored content (paid interviews) on local TV channels was the subject of HBO's "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver" last Sunday (embedded video above).

Many local television stations across the United States, including here in Houston, have "lifestyle" shows that are a mix of real and paid interviews.

While H-Town stations did not get mentioned on Oliver's show, WFAA DFW's "Good Morning Texas" got a quick look.

But the Texas station that received the most attention was KVUE 24 after the HBO show created a fake product, website, hired an actress to be the spokesperson and then paid to have her on several stations including the TEGNA Austin station's "FYI Austin."

It was later written about on Austonia.com.

Oliver is correct that businesses use the video from sponsored content all over their websites.
