Cameron Venable joins KAKE News from KFDA Amarillo

Cameron Venable is leaving the weather center at NewsChannel10 KFDA Amarillo for KAKE News Wichita, Kansas.

"After 5 years in the Texas Panhandle it's time to move on," Venable tweeted.  "I will be moving to Wichita KS working at @KAKEnews as their Weekend AM Meteorologist & Storm Chaser!"

KFDA was Venable's first TV news job.

Growing up in Torrance, California, Venable was fascinated by the weather by age six.

He earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Meteorology from San Jose State University in San Jose, CA.

According to his bio, even before college, Venable forecasted the weather on several amateur Southern California websites for practice.

"Cameron was always outside checking the weather, and he had these handheld lightning detectors, and it became apparent to me very quickly that if I was going to keep him around for very long, I was gonna have to get him inside and out of the lightning," KFDA Chief Meteorologist Doppler Dave Oliver wrote about Venable's weather enthusiasm.

“It’s pretty good market jump to Wichita and it’s the sixth largest severe weather market," Venable told Doppler Dave in the article.  "On top of that, I’m going to be one of the primary storm chasers, chasing most of Kansas three quarters of Kansas. Now in the Panhandle We average about 20 tornadoes per year if you look at Kansas, it’s about 80 to 90. And what’s surprising is since I’ve been here I really haven’t seen very many tornadoes. I’ve seen about 18 and about 12 of those came from driving up to Dodge City."
