Lee Sausley announces KRIS 6 retirement

KRIS 6 Corpus Christi evening anchor Lee Sausley is retiring - Houston and Austin radio listeners might recognize his name

After almost more than four decades in the television news business, KRIS 6 Corpus Christi evening anchor Lee Sausley announced his retirement tonight on the station's 6pm newscast:

After 45 years in the broadcast news business, I have decided to retire at the end of October.

As many of you may know, I'm an artist and I plan to spend a lot more time exploring those interests.

My beautiful wife, Kelly and I, are moving up to the Texas Hill Country where we have a lot of family and friends.

So, it's been a very pleasurable experience to work here and work with this community of the past 38 years.

October 30th will be Sausley's last day according to the station.

Sausley joined KRIS in 2002 after anchoring across the street at KIII.

The station says Sausley suffered a stroke in during Labor Day weekend 2019. In October 2019, the station issued an update about Sausley for concerned viewers.

Sausley grew up in Houston, graduating from the former Lee High School and then the University of Houston.

According to his bio, Sausley started majoring in Fine Art, but then switched to radio and television. He worked for UH radio 88.7 KUHF and then landed a job with 740 KTRH when CBS Sports' Jim Nance was working there.

Sausley later moved to Austin after six years with KTRH where he worked at KOKE AM/FM and as the state capitol correspondent for the Texas State Radio Network.

Eventually he returned to Houston and worked as a news anchor and talk show host at KTRH.

Corpus Christi came calling and Sausley starting doing the AM news for 107.7 KOUL. After four months on the radio, Sausley was tapped by KIII to anchor its 5pm newscast where he worked for nearly eight years.

Then it was off to WVEC Norfolk, Virginia to anchor the 11pm news. I like the teases where the anchor used to say, "Film at 11."

Corpus Christi must have come calling because Sausley came back to do more anchoring. He later worked Quadrant Productions.

Then, the lost stop in his TV news career rolled up and Sausley started anchoring the 6pm and 10pm news for KRIS6 News in 2002.
