Houston Public Media Names Joshua Adams Station Manager

Houston Public Media is pleased to announce that Joshua Adams, the station’s former executive director of operations, has been named station manager.

In his new role, Adams will oversee the day-to-day operations of the area’s only nonprofit, community-owned media organization, strategically guiding its newsroom, programming, technology, facilities and broadcast operations. Lisa Trapani Shumate will continue to serve as associate vice president and general manager of Houston Public Media and executive director of Houston Public Media Foundation.

“Joshua is a respected leader in the public media system,” said Lisa Trapani Shumate. “His collaborative spirit, deep knowledge of broadcast technology, involvement in emergency communication services and commitment to our public service mission made it an easy decision for Houston Public Media to elevate him to station manager.”

Since joining Houston Public Media in 2012, Adams has positioned Houston Public Media for long-term success through significant technology and infrastructure investments, innovative regional and national newsroom collaborations and pioneering advances in datacasting technology to support primary responders. Under his leadership, the station has ushered in a new multiplatform mindset, become the greater Houston community’s primary Emergency Alert System activator and launched The Texas Newsroom – the first-ever collaborative newsroom between public radio stations and NPR.

“I’m excited to be a part of our future, furthering our service to the region through a powerful presence on-air, online, on-demand and in the community,” said Joshua Adams, new station manager at Houston Public Media.

Adams has served in several leadership capacities at Houston Public Media, including as executive producer, director of technology and operations and most recently as executive director of operations. He previously held positions at KHOU 11 (Belo/CBS) and WNCN (NBC).
