KPRC Channel 2, Telemundo Houston, the Houston Chronicle and the League of Women Voters Houston will host "Decision 2019: Houston Mayoral Debate" on Friday, October 11 at 7 p.m.

The live event happening just ten days before the start of early voting will be held at Houston Baptist University's Linda and Archie Dunham Theater located at 7502 Fondren Road, Houston, TX 77074. It will be carried live on KPRC 2, Click2Houston.com, TelemundoHouston.com and Chron.com.

Two of Houston’s top-rated television partners, The Houston Chronicle, as well as the League of Women Voters Houston are collaborating to help Houstonians become better informed about the candidates running for mayor in November.

Dwight Boykins, Tony Buzbee, Bill King and Sylvester Turner have committed to take part. In order to qualify for the debate, mayoral candidates must have exceeded $50,000 in total political contributions as reported in official campaign finance reports filed with the city no later than October 7, 2019. Any candidate meeting that requirement was invited to participate in the debate.

The debate will be hosted by KPRC Channel 2 anchor Bill Balleza and Telemundo Houston anchor Crystal Ayala. Balleza, who will also serve as moderator, has been at the helm of many big events for KPRC for nearly 40 years and anchors KPRC Channel 2 News at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. & 10 p.m. Ayala is a former investigative journalist who now anchors Telemundo Houston’s News at 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Candidates will field questions from six panelists, including “Houston Newsmakers” host Khambrel Marshall and Telemundo Houston anchor Alejandro Mendoza, League of Women Voters Houston Chair of Debates and Forums Reda Hicks, and Houston Chronicle City Hall Reporter Jasper Scherer. KPRC 2 Anchor Andy Cerota and Chronicle City Hall Reporter Mike Morris will serve as digital panelists taking questions through social media and from audience members who submitted them upon registering to attend the debate.

Admission is free but audience members must register online at: https://bit.ly/35iIopW

The doors of HBU’s Dunham Theater will open to ticketed audience members at 6 p.m. The doors will close at 6:30 p.m. in order to prepare for the live broadcast.
