Former KTRK abc13 reporter Gene Apodaca has apparently died

Sad news to report from social media. Former KTRK abc13 reporter Gene Apodaca has apparently died according to posts from his friends and family.

Comments on his Facebook page say the funeral is today in Albuquerque, NM.

The last post Apodaca made on both Twitter and Facebook was "Buenas noches Facebook" on May 16th.

That is all I know at this time. There are no official reports of his death in the media at the time of this writing.

Crossroads Today reports that the 45-year-old died of a heart attack. A former channel 13 colleague of Apodaca's also told me the same cause of death.

He most recently was working as a reporter and anchor for NY1 News in New York City. After Houston, he also worked in Santa Fe TV.

Apodaca left KTRK and Houston in 2010 after working there as a reporter for six years.

Before channel 13, he worked in Miami, WPTV West Palm Beach, KIII Corpus Christi and KOSA Midland/Odessa.
