Jack Acosta shaking up KENS San Antonio

Former KHOU assistant news director Jack Acosta making changes at San Antonio's KENS

Normally I'm not featuring a lot of posts here concerning San Antonio news director happenings, but not every SA ND is Jack Acosta.

Acosta will be well known to Houston media types as the previous KHOU assistant news director, WABC New York producer and KTRK abc13 producer.

Jeanne Jakle of the San Antonio Express-News writes that Acosta has been shaking up things for the better at his new gig at the once top rated KENS:

Have you noticed? KENS-TV’s newscasts have a brisker, crisper, more dynamic feel these days.

On-air personnel say stories are tighter and more plentiful, with an emphasis on breaking news.

There also seems to be a renewed optimism within San Antonio’s CBS affiliate, particularly among anchors and reporters who fondly remember the good old years when “Eyewitness News” reigned as No. 1 here. These days, KSAT’s news seems to have a tight grip on that title.

What’s behind KENS’ improved outlook? A new addition to the station’s management, executive news director Jack Acosta. READ THE REST

Jakle notes that Acosta is allegedly "the first Hispanic to take the news reins at an English-language station." Honestly, I would have thought that would have already happened in the Alamo City.
