Radio One's Houston boss Doug Abernethy leaves for Entercom

Abernethy has worked for Radio One Houston for the last 10 years

Houston Radio One regional vice president Doug Abernethy is leaving the company mikemcguff.com has learned.

Abernethy, who oversees five radio stations in Houston and Dallas, tells me he is leaving the company for a corporate role with Entercom.

While Entercom does not have a presence in Houston, Abernethy will remain here.

"I will be very familiar with IAH," Abernethy told mikemcguff.com.

For those outside of Houston, IAH is the shorthand for George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

Abernethy has worked for Radio One for the last 10 years.

According to his bio, he previously worked as the director of sales for Cox Radio Houston, AM/FM Dallas, Radio One in Washington D.C. and Entercom in Pittsburgh. In 2007 and 2008, Abernethy was named Radio Ink’s Major Market Best Manager in Radio. He was also named the 2008 Radio Wayne Award as Market Manager of the Year.

Radio One owns KBFB-FM 97.9/KSOC-FM 94.5 in Dallas and KBXX-FM 97.9/KMJQ-FM 102.1/KROI-FM 92.1 in Houston.
