Philadelphia Inquirer TV columnist Gail Shister seems to think it's a real possibility that the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric won't be with Katie Couric for long.
Can she survive as anchor?
Year-to-year, the CBS Evening News is down 5%, and the show is down a whopping 30% from Couric's September debut. Avuncular old Bob Schieffer was more productive for a lot less.
Shister says a move to replace Couric could come following the 2008 elections. But that's more than a year and a half away. Those are hardcore business types sitting in the boardrooms at CBS Corp./Viacom. They didn't get ridiculously wealthy and powerful by propping up a failure. They cut their losses. I suspect a further erosion of the numbers would lead to a change sooner than November 2008.
Hannah Storm, good luck.
