For those considering a career beyond TV news, the Houston Independent School District (HISD) has introduced a new opportunity that puts newsroom skills to good use.
HISD NOW, a live YouTube newscast launched in January 2025, airs every weekday morning and afternoon, informing the school community of the latest district news, updates, and events. The initiative also includes a daily Spanish-language broadcast, featuring original content tailored for Spanish-speaking audiences rather than simply translating the English segments.
Much like professional sports teams have done in recent years, HISD is investing in its own content to directly engage its community. Television stations are welcome to use the video from HISD Now.
The HISD NOW team is actively seeking journalists, recognizing that their skills translate well to communications roles. The broadcast team, part of the district’s Communications Department, includes former TV news professionals—station managers, producers, photographers, and on-air talent—who deliver everything from breaking news to daily headlines that matter to parents, students, and staff.
