Travis Herzog new abc13 KTRK chief meteorologist; Elita Loresca to mornings

Well, at least I can start off 2019 with a 100% media forecasting rating! I'll enjoy it while I can before I blow my high score.

This morning, Travis Herzog announced he is the new abc13 KTRK chief meteorologist - replacing the outgoing Tim Heller. And as I also predicted, Elita Loresca will be replacing Herzog on the morning show.

I'll get out of the way so I can let the real forecasters have their moment.

Here is what Herzog posted on Facebook this morning:

On today's morning news we just announced that I will be your new ABC13 Chief Meteorologist starting Monday, January 14th.

It is an absolute joy to serve you every day, and I am truly humbled anytime one of you tells me how much you appreciate and trust what I do. This new responsibility I've been given to lead our weather team is an honor I take very seriously knowing that you are making your plans, decisions, and preparations based on the weather forecasts and real-time information we send your way. My goal in any weather situation is to look out for you the same way I look out for my own family, and I will continue to do that as your new Chief Meteorologist.

With this change in my job description comes a change in my work hours, so when you turn on the TV Monday morning, you'll see the bright light of Meteorologist Elita Loresca delivering your forecast on Eyewitness News This Morning. She is among the kindest people you'll ever meet, and she knows exactly what kind of weather information you're looking for to prepare you and your family for the day ahead. You'll love her!

Then the following week you can start watching my live TV forecasts again on Eyewitness News at 5PM, 6PM, and 10PM.

We have an incredibly talented group of forecasters here at ABC13, and I'm looking forward to leading them as we continue to help you best prepare for whatever weather the atmosphere sends our way.

And finally to my mentor and friend Tim Heller, thank you for the example you have set for all of us during your time here at ABC13. I will truly miss working with you, but I wish you all the best in your "second career."

See you on TV.
-Travis

UPDATE
Here is the official press release from KTRK:

January 4, 2019 –KTRK-TV today announced Travis Herzog will be the new chief meteorologist for ABC 13’s Eyewitness News Weather Team. Travis has been part of the KTRK weather team since July of 2006. Since then he has earned "Broadcaster of the Year" honors from the National Weather Association, "Best Weathercast" in Texas from the Associated Press, and top on-air personality from the Media Alliance of Houston.

Born and raised in Texas, Travis has covered every kind of weather hazard we face in southeast Texas. From hurricanes and tornadoes to ice storms and floods, Travis presents weather forecasts that are informative, educational, and easy to understand so viewers can protect their families. As a weather safety advocate, Travis frequently gives weather safety talks at local schools to help bring down storm anxiety and empower students to make wise choices during dangerous weather. When severe weather strikes, you can trust Travis to provide you with timely weather updates and potentially life-saving information.

“Chief Meteorologist Travis Herzog,” says Wendy Granato, VP of News/Digital content “represents what’s most important to our entire KTRK Weather team--- commitment to viewers and the community, knowledge & experience navigating our ever-changing Gulf-coast weather
conditions, and he happens to be one of the nicest, most caring media professionals I’ve ever known. Travis also understands the importance of informing and interacting with viewers the way they need, on TV, on their computers, and on their phones.”

Herzog earned his meteorology degree from Texas A&M University and is AMS certified and has earned the NWA seal of approval. Travis will assume his new role beginning January 14th as he takes over ABC 13 Eyewitness News Monday-Friday at 5pm, 6pm and 10pm.
