The Art Colony Association, Inc. (ACA), a nonprofit organization dedicated to producing Bayou City Art Festivals, recently named Roger Bare as the new Executive Director. Bare is an innovative veteran broadcast communications executive with experience in leadership, branding, sales and media content.
Joe Pogge, ACA President of the Board, said: “Roger Bare is well-known, greatly respected and will bring exciting and fresh ideas to the team. Bare breaks the mold as he brings a business thought process to the Art Colony Association. I can’t wait to see the direction he will take the organization as the new Executive Director.”
Bare launched the Tephra Agency in February 2018, creating marketing and advertising campaigns for B2B and B2C clients. He has spent much of his career to date in media, serving as Vice President and General Manager of KIAH-TV. He managed more than 100 employees through six departments and was responsible for all aspects of the Houston CW affiliate. Roger worked at KIAH in various capacities for more than 24 years, serving as General Sales Manager, Local Sales Manager, National Sales Manager, and as Account Executive.
Bare holds a bachelor’s degree in advertising from Marshall University, Huntington, WV and is a native of Charleston, WV. He serves on the Marketing Committee for the Houston Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association and is a past-Chairman of the Texas Association of Broadcasters. He also served on the board of the Houston SPCA for 16 years.
Bare added: “I am thrilled to join the Art Colony Association and to have the opportunity to be part of one of the top outdoor fine art festivals in the country. I look forward to joining the team for a successful Downtown festival in October and celebrating 48 years of Bayou City Art Festivals in 2019.”
ACA has provided a venue for more than 20,000 artists to showcase their work to thousands of art lovers from all over the world at Bayou City Art Festival Memorial Park in the spring and Bayou City Art Festival Downtown Houston in the fall. For every festival, a new jury selects participating artists, some new and some returning, creating a fresh and different festival year after year. Patrons have the opportunity to personally meet the artist, view original works and purchase world class art. A percentage of proceeds from Bayou City Art Festival benefit its local nonprofit partners. Since the founding of the Westheimer Art Festival, now known as Bayou City Art Festival, ACA has raised more than $3.6 million for local nonprofits.
On Saturday and Sunday, October 13-14, 2018, ACA will celebrate 47 years of fine art and giving back as it spotlights 300 artists from around the country representing 19 different disciplines at Bayou City Art Festival in Downtown Houston. The festival will feature music, food trucks, beverages, entertainment, a Children’s Creative Zone and much more. This year’s featured artist is Chris Vance, a Mixed Media 2D artist from Bondurant, IA.
