Tony Canales, President and General Manager of Telemundo Houston presented the donation to Jorge L. Arredondo Superintendent East of HISD on Tuesday, October 10th during an in-studio event. Telemundo Houston’s President and General Manager, Tony Canales, was one of 32 individuals honored across the country by the National Football League (NFL) with a “NFL Hispanic Leadership Award” and presented with a $2,000 grant from the Hispanic Heritage Foundation to benefit a local community organization. Canales was distinguished for his dedication to Houston’s Hispanic community and

benefit reading programs for students in 3rd and 4th grades.

“I’m honored to be recognized by the NFL and the Houston Texas and proud of the work that Telemundo Houston does to support educational programs in our local schools,” said Canales. “Education unlocks the doors to opportunities and we’re pleased to join with the Houston Texans to support educational programs that will benefit Houston’s school children and ensure they have the tools
they need to achieve a quality education.”

The NFL and its teams celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month 2017 with a series of special events, including the seventh annual NFL Hispanic Heritage Leadership Awards. The awards recognize the contributions of Hispanic leaders in each NFL market. Each award recipient is recognized at a game or event in their local NFL market.

“We are excited to partner with the Hispanic Heritage Foundation and Nationwide to celebrate the contributions of 32 individuals who are making an impact in their communities,” said Jaime Weston, NFL Senior Vice President of Marketing. “Each recipient is a role model and local hero. We appreciate the time and dedication each leader has devoted to making a difference.”
