James Starks exits KPRC 2

James Starks' bio no longer on KPRC website

UPDATE MARCH 7, 2016
Weekend sports anchor James Starks issues a statement on his departure from KPRC channel 2:

I'm probably a tad late putting this on here but a number of you have asked where I've been. I'm no longer with KPRC and have decided to pursue other opportunities. Mainly I want to thank ALL OF YOU for all of the love you've shown me since arriving in Houston. I appreciate each and every one of you. I told you last Friday that you might have missed FOX 26 KRIV reporter Ashley Johnson if you blinked, and now we have another Houston TV staffer who appears to be gone after a short tenure.

All signs point to KPRC 2 sports anchor/reporter James Starks leaving the NBC affiliate after arriving here in September 2014.

This apparent departure follows the old adage, if a talent is removed from the bios page then they are no longer with the station.

There is no mention of his departure on his social media accounts.

Starks followed KHOU 11's Lauren Talarico from WLTX Columbia, South Carolina to Houston.

Before South Carolina, Starks jumped into TV part-time at WOIO and Fox-8 in Cleveland as a sideline reporter and anchor while earning a broadcast masters degree at Kent State University.

As I wrote before, what makes Starks standout is his time in the NFL. In 2008, Starks signed a free agent contract with the Cincinnati Bengals.

KPRC had no comment.

I'm probably a tad late putting this on here but a number of you have asked where I've been. I'm no longer with KPRC and...

  2. That's too bad. James was the only good one in their sports ranks.
Randy is clueless and Simone is completely unqualified. And don't get me started on marble mouth Chet Pitts.
But then again, this channel is also sending the worthless Sara Donchey to cover the Super Bowl. It must be nice to get a free trip home to California, have a job you're not good at, and be able to cover a topic you know nothing of. I wonder how that came to fruition?

    1. i disagree...i'm no fan of chester pitts nor simone, either...does simone bat for the other team?...anyway, james was no good...nothing you can put your finger on--he just didn't "click" (no pun intended)...simone is passable...hey, if you limit your personnel to ex-jocks then this is what you get...james, if he left on his own which i can't believe, must have also felt that he was a square peg...good riddance...they've got adam wexler now who has been with every sports outlet in 5 states...geez...but he iS knowledgeable and smooth...simone and james are both from ohio...do we really need TWO of "them" in houston??

  3. This wouldn't be shocking at all. You USED to need experience to get into a top 5 market like Houston. Now, a guy plays in the NFL, has 1-2 part time jobs, and everyone is falling over to hire him.

Odds are...find a committed, long-term journalist and you'll have less turnover.

    1. I thought James was good... just needs more air time. Hopefully he got a better offer (full-time) in another market.

  4. I thought James was solid. Who knows what went on behind the scenes. Channel 2 can't hold on to sports guys, it seems to be a revolving door there. After so many in a short period of time, that points to a management issue.

  5. Maybe Jen Reyna can do sports? Her efforts this morning at the anchor desk fall somewhere between Amateur and Incapable.

  6. Starks still tweeting....but maybe he just didn't stroke Randy's ego enough for KPRC to keep him? Maybe they can go back to Nick Giovanni......RIIIIIIIIGHT!

  7. He was a GREAT reporter! He knew of what he was talking about! He knew sports, he lived sports! I have no idea of what the hell is going on behind the scenes at KPRC Sports, but whatever it is, it ain't good! And I agree with the first blogger, Randy has no clue of how to cover sports! However, Simone is really good at what she goes! I'm beginning to loose my faith in watching Channel 2! (Maybe they will pick up the ball during February Sweeps??

I don't know, Nimitz. Seems like they don't pay enough dough and it's a revolving door there because of that and McIlvoy's undeserved ego. Giovanni, that tall balding dude a year or so ago, clanton, etc. Simone is just a novelty as a chick and she's not good at all. BUt she is better than that other lady with the multiple crow's feet who they sent to San Fran for SB 50. She was just downright terrible.

    1. you're right--sara is worthless...but, how much "coverage" can a local station give the superbowl, anyway?...she was not meant to be an analyst...canal dos just had some extra media credentials and they didn't want to let them go to waste...sara was FROM there, so, hey--give her a few days at home...no one pays any attention to the talking heads, anyway...
