KTRK abc13 reporter claims assault by Dan Patrick supporters

KTRK abc13 reporter Deborah Wrigley supposedly protects fellow reporter Foti Kallergis at Lt. Governor elect Dan Patrick's watch party

As Texans come down from Tuesday night's political buzz, we learn from some Houston TV reporters covering the election, there was some kind of an incident at Lt. Governor elect Dan Patrick's watch party involving the media.

Last night, KTRK abc13 reporter Foti Kallergis tweeted: "Nice! Just got assaulted by someone live on air."

According to Fox 26 KRIV reporter Isiah "Factor" Carey AKA The Insite, who snapped a photo on his phone, Kallergis was allegedly shoved while on air at Lt. Governor Elect Dan Patrick's Houston watch party. Apparently, the male and female Patrick supporters accused of trying to stop Kallergis from broadcasting, were angry the reporter went live on channel 13 during a prayer.

Houston Chronicle photographer Smiley Pool also got a shot of the incident you can see here.

Luckily for Kallergis, KTRK reporter Deborah Wrigley was there to protect him from the man according to Carey. Wrigley told Carey that a woman called her a "f------ b----."

Since the event apparently happened live on KTRK, if anyone has a clip, send it to me.

UPDATE 11/10/2014
Mediaite has picked up the story and has the KTRK footage.

I have asked Patrick Chief of Staff Logan Spence and KTRK for comment. If/when I hear back, I will post the responses here.

  2. Deborah is a pale, smoke-filled blob who should have been taken off-camera decades ago.

    1. You should be a shame of yourself! She's a wonderful reporter. Looks has nothing to do with reporting the news. Get a clue....

    2. anonymous ( who posted the insult to Deborah Wrigley ) - you are a real jerk. Deborah Wrigley is one of the best reporters in Houston. She is a very compassionate person and my husband should know since she was a reporter who was covering the murder of his mother in 1985.

  3. Confirms what Patrick will do as the most powerful statewide officeholder in Texas starting on Tuesday, January 20th, 2015.

  4. I was robbed by an Obama supporter once. No once did a news story on that.

  5. If I remember correctly, part of the incident was aired as you could hear someone taking issue with Kallergis and then KTRK cut away.

  6. Based on Isiah Carey's photo, the lesson here is: don't f*** with Deborah Wrigley.

  7. When I was a reporter for the Sun newspapers in 2006, I was attacked by a Dan Patrick supporter at the CHERRY TREE REPUBLICANS meeting in the Champion Forest/Cypress Creek Parkway area. The reason: I asked too many tough questions. Another screamed, "You have a lot of nerve showing up here!" The meeting was headed up by now County Clerk Stan Stanart, who did nothing.

Word to media everywhere: These people are dan-ger-ous.

  10. It seems that Univision's Crystal Ayala was interrupted on air also. They addressed it on one of their newscasts last week while replaying part of the incident. Tsk, tsk.
