Chris Stipes now Fox 26 KRIV weekend anchor, plus other changes

Fox 26 morning anchor Chris Stipes moves to weekends, plus other reporter changes for 2014

What does the fox say? He says there are a lot of changes coming to Fox 26 KRIV.

I learn this after coming back from an East Texas trip where I had a discussion about bull and hog field castration. I've had TV managers try to do a similar procedure on me, although I bet it is done more humanly in East Texas. And for those who are concerned, don't worry, I still have a pair.

Back to KRIV, morning anchor Chris Stipes announced twice on Facebook that he is now the weekend anchor.

"Hey everybody the weekend is finally here," Stipes first posted. "That means it's a chance for you to catch me on my new assignment at Fox 26! No more early mornings for me... I'll be anchoring the weekend newscasts at 5pm & 9pm. Please tune in!"

Clearly by the exclamations he seems happy about not starting his newscast at 4am anymore.

That means we won't see this image anymore between Stipes and new morning anchor Rita Garcia. In fact, Stipes is swapping jobs with Garcia who was just recently the solo weekend anchor at the Fox owned and operated station.

This also means Stipes will now work the same days as his wife, Elissa Rivas, who is weekend morning anchor for KTRK abc13.

Don't think the changes stop with Stipes though. Multiple sources tell me the reporter schedules will change at the beginning of 2014. Most of the reporters will leave the day shift and start working the night shift at 1:30pm and report for both the 5pm and 9pm newscasts.

Several sources have told me that former morning reporter John Donnelly returns to that shift and most likely joined by newcomer Rashi Vats.

Also, I've had lots of questions about the whereabouts of Fox 26 reporter Ford Atkinson. Fox Television Stations tells me he is on vacation.

  1. I knew there would be some big changes. From the limited numbers I saw from November, it looked like KRIV took a big hit in the ratings. I expect more changes, if things don't greatly improve in February. Surprised Ford Atkinson is still there. I don't think the GM has ever been fond of him. I don't know why? He's a solid journalist.

  2. The GM at KRIV expects everyone to kiss his ass and the ones who do not do not, he never even acknowledges they are in the room

  3. I agree with you on that one. D'Art is driving folks out of Fox 26; What happens to Kristine Galvan ?

  4. I hope Kristine Galvan stays on the weekend shift and works with Stipes. I also hope Damali Keith will work weekend mornings with Sally McDonald.

  5. Whoever is running the show over there, really, I mean REALLY needs to update the morning show! Its so boring!

  6. Kriv has had what 3 News Directors in the past 4 years, once that kind of thing starts its just a revolving door. Dart runs the news room, if he likes you then your safe--if he never notices you. Look out.

  7. I see that they are copying a lot of what WFLD Chicago does. Natalie and Jake made a good move by going to Chicago. I have tried watching Fox26 and they are still boring.

  8. The best move that they have made so far was having the ladies looking good, sitting on the white couch.

  9. They need to update their skyline news set
