I think everyone in the TV business has seen this one coming - photographers going on air. Many I've talked to over the years actually fear this scenario.
But if you find a photog with the right personality - it can work. WAFB in Baton Rouge put photog/blogger Rick Portier on air to much success.
KPRC 2 in Houston is doing it too. Morning photog Damon Sales has a "morning cam" segment where he voices over scenes live on the air. As far as I know, he does not actually appear on camera.
I reached out to KPRC 2 news director Deborah Collura for more info but did not hear back from her (it is sweeps after all and she's in charge of all of the Post-Newsweek news departments).
However Mike Guerrieri, Vice President/Creative Services Director for the station, told me photographer and "very talented guy" Byron Nichols is also doing the same kind of segment on the night newscasts.
Guerrieri says Nichols and Sales started doing the segments at the same time which I believe was during this past summer.
