Drew Shirley hired as KHOU 11 sports producer from KPLC
Native Houstonian and Texas TV guy Drew Shirley has gone across state lines to accept the Sports Director role at KPLC Lake Charles, La.
Much like KPRC 2 anchor Irika Sargent, Shirley has a law degree. In fact, he will be still practicing law on the side.
That means when Shirley wants an exclusive interview with an athlete, he brings along a pen and an ironclad contract they can't get out of. Drives the other sports guys crazy (I'm kidding, Drew please don't bring legal action against me!).
Because of his strong Houston ties (his wife is from here, as well as the rest of his family), Shirley will be coming back on the weekends.
"I am so happy to be a sports guy again and to be able to stay close to home," Shirley told mikemcguff.com. "[Last week] was my first day back on the air, and there's just nothing like that feeling when the red light goes on."
Here's to hoping Shirley's next gig is covering Bayou City sports teams then. I'm sure the jury would be unanimous on that.
Shirley previously worked at KKCO NBC Grand Junction CO 2000-2003, KVUE ABC Austin 2003-2005 and KXII CBS Sherman 2009-2010.
