KTRK 13's Andy Cerota going to KPRC 2?

Andy Cerota
UPDATE 6/19/2012
KPRC 2 lands Andy Cerota from KTRK 13

I hear KTRK 13 reporter Andy Cerota's contract is up and he is most likely moving on from the Houston ABC owned station. But the talk does not stop there.

The BIG rumor is that Cerota could end up behind the anchor desk down the freeway at KPRC 2.

I contacted Cerota's agent Rick Ramage of N.S. Bienstock, Inc. about this potential "move across the street" as they say. Ramage told me Andy is currently weighing several job offers, but it is his policy to not comment on client contract negotiations.

Cerota has been at channel 13 since 2003. According to his bio, Cerota came to Houston from Los Angeles TV. Before that, he worked in Phoenix, Austin and Abilene. He graduated from the University of Northern Colorado and is originally from New York. One thing in his bio that sticks out is Cerota freelanced for NBC News and filed reports for The Geraldo Rivera Show.

In recent years it has not been common for Houston talent to jump from one local station to another but is has happened (much more common for behind the scenes folks as demonstrated on this blog).

Here are some names that are currently on Houston TV that come to mind though:

KHOU 11's Shern-Min Chow has also worked at KTRK and KPRC.
KHOU 11's Jeff McShan used to be a sports reporter at KTRK.
KTRK 13's Christi Myers worked for KPRC and KHOU.
Katishia Cosley has moved between KTRK and KIAH 39.
KTRK 13's Katie McCall used to work at KIAH.
KHOU 11's Vicente Arenas used to work at KTRK.
KHOU 11's Sherry Williams used to work at KIAH.
KHOU 11's Gene Norman used to work at KTRK.
KPRC 2's Frank Billingsley used to work at KTRK
Fox 26 KRIV's Ford Atkinson used to work at KPRC.
Fox 26 KRIV's Emily Akin used to work at KPRC.

Cerota declined to comment for this post.

UPDATE
I've been alerted that Cerota's bio has been removed from abc13.com.

  1. That move would be completely surprising to me. Andy Cerota, since I've been watching him on ABC 13, has been solid at his work. Pretty powerful rumor if he may go from reporter to anchor. Best wishes to him wherever he goes.

  2. 2 doesn't have any anchor openings. Unless they're getting ready to dump someone. Again.

  3. TV stations are sports teams, they sign some on and trade them sometimes.

  4. Cerota is a fantastic reporter, super-nice guy...good for him if it's true. I don't see him as an anchor, though.

  5. I'd take him over Conflenti, Freeman, Reyna, Sachse or Zavala any day as they all suck.

    1. You know nothing about the internet, do you? Nothing you read can be taken at face value especially on Wikipedia. It's not true until he pops up on KPRC.

  7. Moving to KPRC is a downgrade! Andy is much too professional for them!

    1. KPRC is an upgrade if they are putting Andy in the anchor chair. KTRKs loss is KPRCs gain.

  8. He's a fool for joining KPRC. All us employees want to escape. Soon enough he will too.

    2. All us employees? Who is this? Who could possibly be sick of the Dominique Sachse wedding network?

    3. The funniest ad is the one running in Houston Magazine with her new husband talking about the Jaguar Domningue bought for him. Who cares? Do the news and no one cares about your wedding or your expensive tastes.

    1. I notice that KTRK, Ch. 13 is the Los Angeles Lakers of Houston TV: the same folks are still there for like 30 or 40 years.

  13. Totally sucks that Andy is leaving. I loved him on ABC13...always thought he was highly respected there. I hope he stays on Houston TV.

  14. KTRK is not the local powerhouse anymore. The ratings show KRIV is the station gaining the most viewers and KHOU losing big. KHOU was the station for quality journalism. KPRC was the flash and trash station and still is but that could be changing. KRIV is doing primarily enterprise journalism but not with the old KHOU snob appeal. KRIVs morning show is 6 hours and has the most variety hands down. KRIVs 5p news has only been on the air since the fall of 2008 and is in 2nd place. KPRC scored with Andy. Andy is credible and will draw viewers over to KPRC. It appears with KPRCs recent hires that they are serious about putting quality people on the air. KTRKs news is the most boring in the market. People are not going to sit and watch breaking news house fires forever and the same old murder here and murder there.

  15. Sherry Williams was at KRIV before she became main anchor at 39 then she went to 11. KTRK should hire Sherry!

  16. Started at Channel 2 on June 25, first story was from Galveston at the top of the news. Bill Balleza remarked that he looked good with the Local 2 logo on his shirt.
