I'm told she will anchor the weekend 5 and 10 newscasts, plus work the 10pm three nights during the week.
Suarez was formerly a reporter for Telemundo 47 KTMD from May 2001 to December 2006 according to her LinkedIn profile. Before that she was an assignments editor at KIAH 39 (then KHWB).
Around the time Suarez started working for the Houston Independent School District, she earned her law degree at the University of Houston Law Center.
Clearly her fellow HISD press colleagues will miss her.
"Rebecca has done a terrific job for HISD doing everything from writing press releases, to on-camera interviews to producing a once a week news story and a once a month television interview show that has been nominated twice for an EMMY," HISD Press Secretary Norm Uhl told mikemcguff.com. "And she did all of this while going to college to get a law degree. She will be difficult to replace because of her wide range of skills, but at least we’ll be able to see her use those talents on TV. Although we hate to lose her, as a former TV guy I understand that the anchor position at Univision is a wonderful opportunity for her."
Suarez's last day at HISD will be Friday, May 6. She won't have anytime off since she is starting at KXLN the following Monday.
