Houston's Univision 45 KXLN to get local morning newscast

Example of Univision LA morning newscast

Morning news is hot ratings-wise for many stations. You've got a pretty captive audience who is getting ready for work and not able to flip channels. That means good advertising for the station.

So on that note, Univision is entering the morning news war. The Spanish-language network already has morning news in Los Angeles and now it's rumored to be coming to Houston on Channel 45 KXLN in early April.

"Houston is a key Hispanic market no question, and it makes sense to have a Spanish local morning show," Ray Fohr with public relations and marketing agency Fleishman Hillard in Houston told mikemikemcguff.com.

In the case of Univision LA, the show is a little lighter in tone much like any other morning newscast. Houston's first Spanish-language morning news on Univision 45 should be similar.

"I think the new show will be a good addition to what’s already a strong news product portfolio from KXLN, and it’ll also allow them to have more fun in terms of the type of news stories they can offer viewers, like cooking, entertainment and others," Fohr added.

I contacted KXLN for comment but did not hear back. CONTACT: Leave me a Houston or Texas media news tip | COMMENT: Click to leave your thoughts on this post here
