Fox 26 KRIV anchors playing a game of switch-a-roo on air

Here is the news about a Houston TV station I mentioned yesterday. It seems some Fox 26 KRIV anchors are being shuffled like cards at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

It first came to my attention when someone named Conservative Democrat (who links to Gov. Rick Perry's site by the way) left this message for me:

Sibilia Vargas is now doing the 9pm newscast at Fox 26 while Melinda Spaulding does the Noon and 5pm newscasts. I smell a big shake-up at Fox 26 this year.

Sure enough I watched the playback and saw it for myself. No official word from Fox on this. We can only guess KRIV is testing the waters to see how the audience reacts to the shuffle.

One thing to point out, Melinda Spaulding just shuffled shows with Melissa Wilson in the last great Fox 26 KRIV anchor change of 2010.

Forget 21, in this shuffling of the deck, the winning number is 26. OK, that sounded cooler in my head but reading it now I just look like a moron for writing it.

  1. It all comes down to money...not who's the best fit for the 9pm show.

  2. What is their morning anchor lineup? Seems like it's different all the time.

  3. The morning lineup is simple...It's either Natalie and Chris, Natalie and Tom, Sibila and Natalie, Sibila and Tom, Jose and Melissa,Melissa and Sibila, Jose and Sibila, Natalie and Melissa, and either Kristi or Mike on weather.

  4. That's why Fox is dead last in morning ratings. No consistency.

  5. Fox is the No. 1 local news at 7am, 8am and 9am. Of course they are the only one.

  6. Wonder if there's any chance they'll bring back Jan Jeffcoat now that Fox Chicago has taken her off the morning news.

  7. Natalie is horrible...yet I still find Fox better than the crap Ch 2 has. I miss Anthony's weather, but can't stand the other 3 hacks enough to stick around for his forecast any more.

  8. Anon, I do not see Jan Jeffcoat leaving Chicago anytime soon to come back to Houston unfortunately.

KPRC has never recovered since Ron Stone called it quits in '92 and the station has imploded each and everyday since with the recent controversies of Linda Lorelle being demoted from prime-time to the afternoon in 2005 and eventually being quietly sent out the door while Khambrel Marshall went from news anchor to doing the weather (very embarrassing).
