Nefertiti Jáquez and Mike McGuff on Garf's 950 KPRC show today

I'll be on 950am KPRC today at 11am with Michael Garfield "The High Tech Texan." There will also be a special guest who is causing quite the splash in Houston.

Fresh off a profile in Ken Hoffman's column, KPRC 2 reporter Nefertiti Jáquez will talk to us about the media using social media.

Right after I posted about Jaquez arriving at KPRC in January, web surfers have been coming by in droves looking for info about her. A big TV star in the making?

  1. Dont know where this rookie came from but she has a very BIG EGO for being a street beat reporter. I dont think she is all that good. Can someone at channel 2 tell this person to open her mouth when she speaks.

  2. Aside from not being good, she look like a porn star not a serious journalist. Who's gunna take her seriously? It's too bad because apparently she's a smart girl.

  3. I'd take her, seriously.

  4. PHILLY here...

Nefertiti did a story on my family when she was still here in Philadelphia and really helped us out. They caught our son's killer.

I'm not too sure why the angry posts, but many of us miss her here.

  5. Hey Nef...sounds like someone at your station or one of your competitors is a little jealous. Don't worry about it. You're doing a great job!

  8. I think she's a good addition. I read Hoffman's write-up and she seems smart.

    However...

Who is racist? Who is Kathy?

  9. Give the girl a break. She just got here. I heard her on the radio show and she was quite humble. I looked up some of her stuff through McGuff's blog and she's solid.

  10. Sad but TYPICAL, fragile & insecure people tend to attack one's appearance over quality & skill. We LOVE NEFERTITI in Philly!!!

  11. TAKE HER BACK TO PHILLY...PLEASE TAKE HER BACK.....

  12. Ken Hoffman is a has been. The newpaper is going belly up soon. Hearst Family ruined the chronicle when they bought it. Who reads it anymore.

  13. As a woman of color I respect Nefertiti. I think she's doing a wonderful job at Ch.2.

  14. She doesn't look like a porn star.

According to her bio on 2's website she's an accomplished woman.

  15. What the hell does woman of color have to do with likeing a fool with a huge ego. I have also heard how she moves up in this newsroom......People wake up. Dont you see a fake in front of your damn face. I think Mary Benton is a hell of a reporter and that other nut job that has a racist blog. But I have to admit he is a good street beat reporter. Look what happen when we all wanted hope and change. You see what we got. What ever happen with checking out somone one resume and working hard to be where your at... Such a damn shame. And I am a man of color.

  16. I think the jealousy is hilarious here. I think a few of the posters here are upset that this woman has it all. You can't call her dumb because she is an Ivy League graduate. So you go to her looks..but oops, she's beautiful. Then you hit her reporting skills...oh wait she was at Philly and Miami and now is taking Houston by storm. I'm sure she is reading this and laughing.

  18. I worked with Nef in Miami nearly everyday. The girl has no ego. She's sweet, humble, and down to earth. I agree everyone who's bashing her is merely insecure. The fact that she's causing quite a stir in Houston is really funny. Goes to show how dirty our biz is.

  19. She's beautiful.

  20. I'd take her seriously. Have. Will continue you watching. I think the entire Ch.2 team is great. Phil Archer is the man. Mary Benton knows her stuff. Bill and Dominique are a perfect pair. Frank is great. He is Mr. Weather. Then you have all of the great reporters Daniella, Carl, Robert, Stephan, Joel, Amy. Everyone brings something to the table. Not going to lie, I watch Ch. 13 too. But reporting-wise 2 is better.

  21. Ms. Jaquez visited my employer Safety Vision last week to interview one of our mobile video clients, a tow-truck wrecker who was recently shot at in the line of duty (the story aired on KPRC 2.15.10). Nefertiti was a delightful guest: gracious, down-to-earth, engaging, sharp, patient, professional, and just plain FUN. (In fact, she let us photograph and film the interview, which is documented on our company blog: www.candidoncameras.com (yesterday's "Dodging bullets" post) as well as our outposts on Flickr, Vimeo, and YouTube.) Nefertiti showed genuine concern about catching the assailant, and we will watch her Houston career with interest and support as she makes the "splash" predicted by Mr. McGuff. Rock it, Nefertiti!

  22. This is a girl who comes from a great family. I saw her here in Philly do a story once on her family. Her cousin, Junot Diaz, is a Pulitzer Prize winning author and a professor at MIT. He too, is an Ivy League grad (went to Columbia or Cornell I think). So I'm not too sure where the bad comments are coming from, but I side with Christine...she's a nice person. I met her at one of his book signings and she just sat in the back and watched him be the star. That to me said a lot about her, because she's the one on TV. So no big ego!

  23. I to think that I would defend my friend in time of need. But too many rookie reporters have worked hard just to surive in this industry. I think NAFTA or Nefe is very arrogant and big ego fitted. She should not come to a major market and act like she been acting with her two to three minute reports that she has done. Again I looked her up and cant not find no major stuff on her. Such a shame she uses her some what good looks to advance herself in the newrooms across the country.

  24. I agree. This dizzy lizard uses her looks to get ahead. What ever happen to hard work and a honest day pay.

  25. I work with Nefertiti here in Houston and she's awesome. What are you guys talking about? She has no ego. She works very hard.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Like the first blogger said...She is just a rookie. She must work hard in order to get respect in this industry. If she is using her looks. sad

    ReplyDelete
  27. There is no doubt that respect is earned, but this girl has got it.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I looked her up after watching her last night. She's no rookie. She's a Brown grad who has worked in 3 major markets. Plus, she's solid.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I worked alongside her for 3 years in Philly, as a reporter at a competing station. She's first class. Whoever is writing bad things is just simply jealous of her. It's sad. Try getting to know her. She's a great woman with a huge heart.

  30. To the poster above,

If you are a reporter, you should know it's "whomever", not "whoever". I think, like most of the women at 2, she needs to really tone down her makeup. It's too harsh for her and that's why some people are saying she looks like a porn star. If some of these women would go on the air with their "real" faces,I think they would get more respect from people and they would be taken more seriously.

  31. I am just old school here and believe that you should work hard for what you want. I think that she is pretty but she is to fake for me and others in my family. My wife is a beautiful woman very beautiful and I am very lucky. But she is really down to earth and people take a likeing to her instantly. She has never used her looks to advance. Only one time. And that was to my heart.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Goodness she does look like a porn star.

    ReplyDelete
  33. This girl is very pretty. She does not look like a porn star. Who says that anyway? That's a pretty harsh comment to make. It seems like everyone who knows her, likes her. So what's the problem. I saw her tonight and she seemed fine.

  34. Ken Hoffman thinks he gonna get lucky. Who reads Ken anymore. In fact I thought he was fired.
