If the Federal Communications Commission flipped the switch today for digital television, just under 100,000 households in the Houston area would not be ready, according to new figures by The Nielsen Co.
The figures show that 4.74 percent of Houston households still do not have the proper equipment for the transition to digital. There are 2.1 million television households in the Houston area, according to Nielsen. READ MORE

Houston still not fully ready for digital TV
The Houston Business Journal paints a fuzzy picture for the DTV switchover:

Everyone has known for at least two years that digital is coming. There's even been one extention of the deadline for those who have been living under a rock since then and weren't on board.
ReplyDeleteThe time has come to say "too bad, so sad" and flip the switch. Those that are too lazy to upgrade or are completely out of touch shouldn't be allowed to hold up progress.
Our society coddles people way too much. Step up, get on board or be left behind.
ENOUGH ALREADY!!!
How long are we going to allow the technology-challeneged and lazy people hold up progress?
ReplyDeleteThere has been ample notice (years now) and there's no excuse for not being prepared. The government even issued coupons so the converters cost NOTHING, ZERO!
With this mindset, you have to force people into acting and I bet if the FCC stands strong, makes the switch WITHOUT ANOTHER DEADLINE EXTENTION, you will see people finally get off their butts and make the necessary changes.
If we continue to tip-toe around these people, nothing will get accomplished and 20 years from now, we will still be waiting for them to act. Force their hand and they will move with lightening speed.
What idiots! If people don't know about it now, then they must not even be watching TV, so why do they matter?!?! I bet that once they turn on their TVs and get static they'll figure it out and get off their butts!
ReplyDeleteI have a great idea. Why don't we hold off the conversion another six months. I'm sure in that time all the late stragglers will have bought and installed their converter boxes.
ReplyDeleteI don't think any state or city is fully ready for the digital TV transition. Maybe people are too lazy, don't care, are unaware, or whatever else reason there is left. All I know is that a significant majority of the population is ready, and we should conduct the DTV switch asap.
ReplyDeleteHmm. In my own opinion (and correct me if I'm wrong), no state is 100% ready for the DTV switchover. That approximately 3% of the American population that are unprepared are either just uninformed, unaware, or probably don't even give a damn.
