Michael Berry takes on new role in radio

It's been the buzz of the blogs and now the Houston Chronicle confirms the deal for us:

City councilman and talk show host Michael Berry, who has filled in as mayor pro tem for the past year, is adding another title before his name: operations manager for Clear Channel's three Houston AM radio stations.

Berry started calling the shots at news radio KTRH-AM (740), news talk KPRC-AM (950) and sports talk KBME-AM (790) on Friday.

Berry, who has hosted a morning talk show on KPRC for nearly 18 months, has little background in radio. Eddie Martiny, vice president and market manager for Clear Channel Houston, said hiring Berry was a departure from the norm.

Bravo to Mr. Martiny. Clearly radio execs need to take a gamble and hire some creative folks outside of the industry because what's happening right now across the country is not setting the airwaves on fire.

Hopefully Berry can work on merging the radio and the internet. I think the experience needs to be more interactive. A community must be established between the radio station and
the listener.

Michael Berry is complete idiot. I never thought that until today when he said a certain former channel 2 reporter is a "top notch journalist".
Dude, she sat around on her butt for six hours a day, then ran around for two hours making everyone's life miserable and when she missed slot she'd blame the photog. Sound like inside baseball? You're right, I worked with "She who shall remain unnamed", I know.
