The secret to a good radio show

Former Mix 96.5 KHMX morning show players Roula and Ryan are back on the radio at 104.1 KRBE. This after the very public departure of Atom Smasher and Maria Todd.

Andrew Guy Jr. of The Houston Chronicle paid a visit to Roula and Ryan's first show and let us listeners know the secret to a good radio show - have someone screen all of the phone calls:

That's how a majority of the calls aired Monday morning went: We love you guys. Welcome back. Gush, gush, gush.

Ryan and Roula's secret to happiness: Calls were screened and only the positive ones were put through. A few feet away from the main booth at KRBE's southwest-area studio, a producer sits at a switchboard, frantically pounding lit extension buttons, trying to keep up.

"I try and screen the ones who are going to sound upbeat and happy," the producer says. "I can always tell when they're not going to be someone good to put on the show. Hold on one second."

Click.

"Hello, KRBE, how can I help you?"

A few seconds of silence. The producer hangs up the phone.

What did that caller say?

"She said that Roula and Ryan sucked."

I wonder what Sam Malone thinks of all of this?

A visitor to this blog commented that Atom Smasher is moving to San Antonio for another job. Is that true? Anyone...anyone? CONTACT: Leave me a Houston or Texas media news tip | COMMENT: Click to leave your thoughts on this post here
