Kirby trees in danger email

Sounds like there is a new issue in Houston. I just received this email:

274 mature live oaks on Kirby are in danger of being cut down by Upper Kirby TIRZ in order to widen the streets (but not increase the number of lanes), and supposedly to widen sidewalks: more streets, wider sidewalks, fewer trees. To protest, go to Trees for Houston's website and sign their petition, and/or voice your opinion to the mayor and City Council at www.houstontx.gov.
