I was honored to be invited to cover a plaque unveiling and dedication ceremony celebrating ABC13 KTRK Houston Anchor Emeritus Dave Ward’s outstanding service and dedication to the greater Houston area during his legendary 50-year career with the Disney Entertainment Television station.
Ward did not know this honor was coming his way. His wife, Laura, who planned the event, told him they were going to the Channel 13 studios to see some updates to the building!
As you can tell in the video, he was very surprised!
Remarks were made by former co-anchor Gina Gaston, KTRK-TV president and general manager Michael Carr, Tanya Menton of The Walt Disney Company, Houston Mayor John Whitmire, and Ward himself.
In attendance were current and former members of the KTRK staff (with former co-anchors Jan Carson and Shara Fryer), plus Tilman Fertitta, Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale, Rania Mankarious - CEO of Crime Stoppers of Houston, members of Houston-area law enforcement, Mary Benton - Chief of Communications/Senior Advisor to the Mayor and many other Dave Ward supporters!
