KENS 5 honored with 17 Lone Star Emmy Award nominations

KENS 5 San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO – On Friday, KENS 5 was nominated for 17 Lone Star Emmy Awards, more than all other San Antonio television stations combined.

KENS 5’s morning, evening and weekend newscasts all were nominated for excellence in their time slots.

“We are proud to be recognized for our work serving the people of South Texas. Strong journalism has always been a hallmark of KENS 5 News,” said Jack Acosta, KENS 5 news director. “Our team works tirelessly to bring important stories to our community each and every day.”

The station’s work also was nominated for its performance on breaking news and continuing coverage, in addition to nominations for specific news topics, such as border issues, human interest, arts and entertainment, historical/cultural, religion and light features.

The KENS 5 Original series “Together We Rise” received a nomination in the “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion” category.

KENS 5 staff members also were nominated for best editor and best photographer in the annual awards.

“Our job is to shine a spotlight on our community, and I’m honored that our station was nominated in such a wide variety of categories,” said Tom Cury, KENS 5 general manager. “From tragic stories to ones that inspire and offer perspective, we strive to serve South Texas with the best news coverage possible.”
