KPRC launches "KPRC 2 Community" initiative

KPRC 2 Community

KPRC 2 kicks off 2022 with the launch of “KPRC 2 Community,” a year-round commitment--in partnership with Energy Transfer--to spotlight the notable people, organizations, events and causes that impact the betterment of our communities.

“This year-round initiative will be a concerted effort to focus the most attention on community projects having the greatest impact in the Houston area,” said KPRC 2 Vice President/General manager Jerry Martin.

The purpose of “KPRC 2 Community” will be to cultivate and celebrate Houston’s diversity the way we know best – through storytelling.  The mission of “KPRC 2 Community” is to seek out and share the stories of people from all backgrounds and honor their contributions by taking action, joining their efforts and giving a voice to the deserving heroes who make us proud to call Houston home.

“Energy Transfer is proud to sponsor this new initiative that is designed to help so many across our city, said Chris Curia, EVP & Chief Human Resource Officer for Energy Transfer. “It is also a great opportunity for nearly 2,000 employees in the Houston area to support those in need. Giving back to the communities in which we live and work has been important to us throughout our 25-year history, and engaging in this program alongside KPRC 2 is very meaningful to us.”

“KPRC 2 Community” projects will be supported across the station’s platforms, including newscasts, Houston’s #1 weekday lifestyle program Houston Life, public affairs program Houston Newsmakers, Click2Houston.com, and all social media channels.

The first “KPRC 2 Community” project will be with Kids’ Meals, a Houston-based non-profit addressing hunger and food insecurity for children ages 6 and under who are not only at a critical developmental stage but cannot access school-based free meal programs.

Each weekday, Kids’ Meals delivers approximately 7,000 healthy meals to Houston’s hungriest pre-school aged children, and every child up to age 18 when school is out – up to 7,500 kids per day.

“We congratulate KPRC 2 and its efforts to support our mission,” says Beth Harp, Chief Executive Officer,  Kids’ Meals. “We are thrilled to be the inaugural January 2022 recipient and appreciate the opportunity to share our story through ‘KPRC 2 Community.’”
