Houston Public Media/NPR fans will be sad to hear that longtime news director and afternoon host, Jack Williams, is saying goodbye to News 88.7 KUHF and Houston.

His wife landed a great job in Omaha, so the family is starting its Midwest chapter.

"I feel very fortunate to have spent nearly 18 years here in Houston," Williams told mikemcguff.com. "Professionally, I couldn't have asked for anything more. Personally, Houston is home now and hopefully I'll be back someday. For now though, it's off to another adventure."

Williams has been a fixture in Houston since 1999 when he hit the radio scene as an anchor/reporter at 740 KTRH. By 2000, he jumped across to the same position at KUHF. In 2008, he became the public station's news director.

His radio career kicked off in 1994 as a reporter and anchor at stations in the Rio Grande Valley's KURV and later at Austin's KVET.

Williams has been named the Houston Press Club’s “Radio Journalist of the Year” and has won a number of regional Edward R. Murrow and Texas AP broadcast awards for his reporting. He’s also the radio president of the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters board.

While Williams is taking off, another HPM staffer is moving up.

Here is the release:
