88.7 KUHF to broadcast Houston Symphony concert series on Sunday evenings

Series to include Houston Symphony’s current season and favorite past performances, starting Sept. 27

Houston Public Media and the Houston Symphony announce the expansion of its broadcast partnership with the addition of the Houston Symphony concert series on News 88.7 every Sunday at 8 p.m. starting Sept. 27, 2015. The series will be rebroadcast on Classical 91.7 on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. The weekly series will feature Houston Symphony’s current season and favorite past performances.

“The wide appeal of the Houston Symphony’s Music Director Andrés Orozco-Estrada combined with News 88.7’s local arts and culture expansion, made possible by a grant from Houston Endowment, makes this the perfect time to create a showcase for our symphony on News 88.7," said Lisa Trapani Shumate, associate vice president and general manager of Houston Public Media.

Hosted by St.John Flynn, Houston Public Media's arts and culture director, each program will feature the Houston Symphony recorded live in concert from a multi-track studio in Jones Hall by Houston Public media's senior recording engineer Brad Sayles. Along with the music, the program will offer introductions and special commentary from Orozco-Estrada or the concert’s guest conductor and guest soloist. Listeners will also hear from members of the orchestra and people behind the scenes as they share their insights about the concert.

"We are proud of our growing relationship with Houston Public Media, now to include weekly Houston Symphony broadcasts on News 88.7, as our partnership is making it possible to broaden our audience throughout the Greater Houston area," said Mark C. Hanson, executive director and CEO of the Houston Symphony. "It is exciting to see an increasing amount of arts and cultural coverage on Houston Public Media's flagship radio station News 88.7."
