Sam Malone joins 1070 The Answer KNTH

AM 1070 The Answer KNTH is Sam Malone's new Houston radio home

Sam Malone's new radio show will be on AM 1070 The Answer KNTH the talk show host announced today in a video with quotes from Plato, Benjamin Franklin and the Three Stooges. Currently KNTH is branded as News Talk 1070, so Sam is such a big get, they needed to re-brand just for him I guess. This was the station I figured he might end up on. The show debuts Monday morning, February 18th from 7 to 10am.

Last week, Malone revealed a new TV show on Phonoscope.

Malone tells me both the TV and radio shows will be on at the same time. The show will air on Phonoscope cable channel 11, and will also stream on the radio station's website live. If you missed the show, it can be watched later on demand.

"This is where radio has to move to," Malone told mikemcguff.com. "We have to get the message to the people at work, or the doctor's office, airport or wherever they are. We want to reach them where they are listening."

It's a rarity that a radio talent gets to keep working many years in the same city. Malone thinks he's found the next step for those behind the microphone.

"This is the future for radio talent," Malone told me. "We're seeing mass firings, seeing them disappear. Radio people have to get on to multi-platforms to get to the people. Create your own platforms, create your own brands."

Cynical me, since Malone is the president of Phonoscope New Media, I figured this whole radio/tv project was a thinly veiled sales pitch for Phonoscope's services. Sam says no, this will be a seriously produced show and not just an ad for the company's offerings.

Anytime I write about Sam, there are comments about his turn to conservative radio over the last years. Sam says that's who he is and always has been, even on 104.1 KRBE. He went to both President George W. Bush inaugurations, spoke at his first pro-life dinner in 2001 and even had Governor Rick Perry and former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay on as guest DJs in this top 40 days.

"There's an old radio saying, 'People don't care what you say, they care about you,'" Malone said.

Malone was let go from the 700 KSEV morning show last May (a story that made Top mikemcguff.com posts for 2012). He was replaced by The MACK Show with Richard Mack Machowicz who was just replaced in mornings by Edd Hendee who is making his return to the station.

Before that Sam was at Mix 96.5 KHMX and 740 KTRH, but he is most famously known for his 104.1 KRBE mornings tenure with Maria Todd. Todd went on to work at Mix 96.5 KHMX after Malone. She now works at News 92 KROI.
