On the day of the Texas Radio Hall of Fame 2011 inductions, we get the sad news that former Rock 101 KLOL and Z107.5 KZFX talent Maurice "Crash" Collins, 69, has died (Crash was inducted in 2010).

His wife, Roxana Marx Collins, posted the news on Facebook Sunday afternoon:

"My beloved husband passed at 1:30 pm , Nov. 6th 2011. Keep us in your prayers. Bash for Crash will be a Memorial service and a celebration of his life....please plan on attending with our family. Time to follow for the service..."

Collins was fighting Stage 4 prostate cancer and it had metastasized to the bones according to website bashforcrash.org. The site says Collins' treatment was costing $8,000 a month. A group of his friends were holding a benefit November 13th. According to Roxana's Facebook post, this will now be a memorial event.

The above photo was taken last year when I interviewed Crash for my documentary on Rock 101 KLOL (production temporarily suspended). In the interview he explained to me how he came up with his famous name.

"One day I came in to do the afternoon show and [KLOL managers] Pat [Fant] and Doug Harris were in their office and they said, 'You got a minute?'," Crash described to me. "And I thought, 'Oh no, here we go again, they're going to fire me again.' And they said, 'You need something a little bit more jazzy or something besides just Crash.' So I said, 'Well, let's see, how about Crash In Your Dash?' No, I said, 'Crash from your dash.' And Doug Harris goes, 'Crash In Your Dash.' And we all went, 'Yay!'"

Crash got the name "Crash" from his racing days.
