KPRC 2 owner says station needs to improve

KPRC 2's parent company is Post-Newsweek (and ultimately the Washington Post). In a recent shareholders' meeting Post-Newsweek CEO Alan Frank says his group's largest market station, KPRC Channel 2 is under performing:

Perhaps Frank's biggest challenge - save the rocky economy - was looking for a way to reinvigorate a struggling KPRC in Houston. Showing a slice of humor, he said: "You all know from (Presidential candidate and Texas governor) Rick Perry that Texas is a state that's doing better than most in (these) economic times, and so there's a lot of money to be made, and particularly in Houston, and we were not performing as we might." READ THE REST

I think there is a consensus in the Houston TV community that KPRC 2 has been trying to figure out its identity in the last decade after shedding the tabloidish image it relished in during the late 1990s.

Other interesting notes from Frank featured in this MediaPost article, is that Post-Newsweek stations will extend its station live streaming within the next year and experiment more with social media.
