Seabrook, TX history in photos compiled for new book

Many Houston TV folks will know Monica Burke. She's worked at KTRK 13, KHOU 11 and is now at Fox Network Center-Houston.

It turns out her mother, Ruth Burke, has written a book called Seabrook that documents the growth, prosperity and resilience of the city with history dating to the 1800s. From toils of the Attakapas and Karankawas Indian tribes to the treasure-laden tales of French pirate, Jean Lafitte, the city has been home to hunters, explorers, tradesmen and land barons.

Ruth Burke is a Seabrook artist and photographer so when Arcadia Publishing's “Images of America" series came calling, she started compiling.

The book contains more than 200 photos and will be available at Barnes and Noble and Borders
bookstores as well as Seabrook area shops.
