The owner of Sharpstown Center recently unveiled a proposal to revive the languishing shopping mall by adding a family entertainment area, a movie theater showing international films, a grocery store and a marketplace for local vendors to sell their wares.
The changes, it said, would create more than 1,000 jobs, increase tax revenue and spur development around the mall — an area that’s seen more businesses move out lately than in.
But there was a catch: The company and its local partner wanted $20 million of public funds to do it. READ IT
